Wales and New Zealand to open Commonwealth hockey tournament

Commonwealth Games hockey starts on Monday October 4, with the Welsh and New Zealand women to play the tournament's opener. The game is scheduled for 10.30am Delhi time (6am UK). The other Home Nation in action on the first day is Scotland who play the hosts at 6pm (1.30pm UK time).
Wales face back-to-back games with a match against England on Tuesday at 8.30am (4am, UK). The men's action also begins on Tuesday.

Scotland feel the heat in Delhi

It was only 8.30am local time when Scotland Men stepped onto the pitch at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi to face Canada, but the temperature was already a blistering 34 degrees.
The match may have been billed as a low key warm-up fixture, but the searing heat in Delhi was a contributory factor to a 3-0 defeat in preparation for the opening fixture in the Commonwealth Games against Pakistan next Tuesday.

The Euro Hockey League has announced that tickets for October's rounds 1.1 and 1.2 are on sale now.

Practice match: India 3 England 1 (men)

New Delhi, Sep 26:
The Indian men's hockey team defeated England 3-1 in a practice match ahead of the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games.
For India, Dhananjay Mahadik and Danish Mujtaba scored through penalty corners, while Vikram Pillay slotted a field goal.
India will play their second practice match against England Tuesday.
India is placed with Australia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Scotland in Group A. England, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and Trinidad and Tobago form Group B.

England hockey players to move into Commonwealth village today

England's hockey players will be among the first to move into the Commonwealth Games village on Monday.
A group of around 20 support team staff were to be the first occupants of the England accommodation overnight on Sunday to ensure that conditions continue to be on track for 48 athletes from the sports of hockey (32), lawn bowls (12) and shooting (4) to move in today.
They will be followed by gymnastics (10), archery (12) and weightlifting (14) on Tuesday.
England Chef de Mission Craig Hunter said: “It's exciting but also a relief to be able to occupy our accommodation.

Sophie Bray helped herself to four goals in an emphatic 6-1 victory for Birmingham away at Olton and West Warwicks. Bray scored twice in the first half with Holly Payne and Vicki Gill making it 4-0 at the break. Rachel Clift dropped into defence in the second half to stem the student tide. But Bray scored twice more with Naomi James getting a consolation for Olton.
