Middleton and Jackson on shortlists for FIH awards

England's Barry Middleton (pictured right in action for GB) and Ashley Jackson are among the nominees for awards from the International Hockey Federation (FIH). GB and England skipper Middleton is nominated for men's player of the year, Jackson for the men's young player of the year award which he also pocketed last year.
The annual prizes recognise the finest hockey players in the game as voted for by athletes representing the world's best international teams.
The shortlist for the men’s player contains two of the greatest hockey players of their generation. Brilliant Dutch attacker Teun de Nooijer is joined by HC Bloemendaal team-mate and World Cup-winning Australian Jamie Dwyer, with both men aiming to win the coveted award for a what would be a record fourth time.

European Hockey signs four-year deal with AzPetrol

The European Hockey Federation has renewed its partnership with agreement with AzPetrol for a further four years.
The President of the EHF, Martin Gotheridge, travelled to Baku, Azerbaijan to sign the new contract
and said “I cannot over estimate our gratitude to AzPetrol for continuing to support the European
Hockey Federation. The Umpire Development Project over the past years would simply not have been
possible without the funding from AzPetrol or indeed the dedication of the umpires in the programme

England Hockey funding safe for now, but axe hovers

The England Hockey Board will not be subject to immediate cuts as a result of the government's Comprehensive Spending Review.
However the board's ongoing funding is dependent on an annual review of its performance in meeting targets for international performance and grass roots development. An annual review is underway and the funding from April 2011 is expected to be announced in mid-December.

Dutch women's coach sacked despite World Cup silver medal

The Board of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Hockey Bond (KNHB) has decided not to renew the contract of Herman Kruis, head coach of the Dutch women’s team. The defending Olympic and European champions won silver in both the World Cup in September and the Champions Trophy in July – losing both finals to Argentina.

England Hockey announces new North development officer

Julie Longden has been appointed as EHB Development Officer – North West. Julie comes to the role having worked within consultancy for the last 10 years. She has vast amount of experience in developing and delivering projects, project management and working with a range of clients from both the public and private sector. She is also an active member of Didsbury Northern HC

US field hockey student named national sports woman of the year

Katie O’Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.), USA Field Hockey Team member and University of Maryland superstar, was recently honored as National Sportswoman of the Year at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
As one of the top five finalists, O’Donnell beat out fellow Terrapin women’s lacrosse player Caitlyn McFadden along with USA Softball star Jennie Finch, Olympic Hockey gold medalist Meghan Agosta and USA Water Polo goalkeeper Betsey Armstrong.

Elite athletes off the hook as sports budget slashed

UK Sport – the government agency responsible for the distribution of National Lottery funding to elite athletes – has seen its budget from 2011-15 cut by 28 per cent - marginally more favourable than the projected 30 per cent.
But today's government Comprehensive Spending Review announced that the proportion of National Lottery funding going to sport would inrease to 60%, and together with a projected increase in sponsorship in the lead up to London 2012 this means no cuts to elite athlete funding. This has been confirmed by UK Sport chief executive Liz Nicholl
