Hosts Germany defeated Netherlands 4-2 in the final.

Netherlands rule in Moenchengladbach, England take bronze

Women's finals day of the EuroHockey Nations Championship saw the Netherlands retain their title with an assured 3-0 win over hosts Germany. And even a late soaking from a Moenchengladbach thunderstorm couldn't dent their enthusiasm - top slide girls!

In the bronze-medal game England came from behind to defeat Spain 2-1. Two goals from Helen Richardson, the second a cracking backhand hit three minutes from time, saw England home after Spain took the lead with a Silvia Munoz corner goal after 46 minutes.

Reigning champions England lose their way in German downpour

England lost their European men's hockey championship title on a drenching semi-final night in Moenchengladbach on Friday.

Germany went ahead with a 16th minute field goal from Philipp Zeller, whose rather speculative low flick into a crowd of players from the top left of the circle somehow found its way into the far corner of the net.

England fail to clear Dutch hurdle

England's women fell at the semi-final stage of the EuroHockey Nations Championship, losing 2-0 to defending champions the Netherlands.

The Dutch took the lead after 11 mins when Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel rebounded in a corner. The win was sealed when the ever-threatening Kim Lammers deflected home a cross-shot after 60 minutes. England's first and only corner came after 66 minutes and was saved.

England breeze past France and ito the semi-finals

Three PC goals from Ashley Jackson, a brace each from James Tindall and Richard Alexander and one from Adam Dixon took England to first place in Pool B on goal difference.

With Netherlands likely to reclaim top spot after their game with Ireland, that would leave England to face Germany in a Friday night semi-final (9pm local, 8pm UK). Germany had an equally easy win in their final pool game hitting seven unanswered goals against Russia.
