GB hockey name squad for San Diego trip

Great Britain women’s hockey head coach Danny Kerry has named a 24 athlete squad for a pre-Christmas training camp in San Diego next month.

The two-week trip to California will see Great Britain undertake warm weather training and play a series of five matches against fellow Olympic Games qualifiers USA. Included in the group is Canterbury’s Dilly Newton, in line for her first competitive senior international match, and University of Birmingham’s Susie Gilbert and Leicester’s Katie Long, who both missed out on the EuroHockey Nations Championships in the summer through injury.

RICHARD DOCHERTY INDOOR CUP 2012

On the 27th of June 2010 a truly charismatic and talented member of the Scottish Hockey community sadly, tragically and suddenly passed away at the tender age of 27. Richard was a huge character in the lives of his family, friends and the members of Inverleith Hockey Club.

To all who knew him, it was very clear that his memory must never be forgotten therefore an Indoor Hockey Tournament and supporting Diabetes UK Scotland were seen as suitable and fitting ways to do that. So over the past 18 months Inverleith Hockey club has worked alongside Richard’s family to create an Indoor Event that will encompass Richard’s character, style and be a true celebration of his life.

Brasa files case with European Commission over World Series Hockey

The Indian Express is reporting that former India hockey coach Jose Brasa and a number of Sapnish players have filed cases with the European Competition Commission to appeal against the threat of suspension issued by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to players keen to play in the cash-rich World Series Hockey.

Strong UK turnout in All American field hockey selections

Becky Dru (Stanford), Megan Frazer (Maryland), Sarah Mansfield (UConn)and Emma Batten (Old Dominion) have all been named in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All American Selection. 

The selection recognises the outstanding players in the top-level of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association)  field hockey competition. This year's division I championship was won by Maryland.

Harriet Tibble (Maryland) is in the second-team all American selection.

Cup draw throws up a big Midlands derby

The tie of the England men's cup quarter finals will be holders Beeston at home to fellow England Hockey League (EHL) premier division front-runners Cannock.

Both teams made long trips south in the last 16 returning victorious.  Beeston won 6-1 at Fareham, and Cannock defeated South League side Brighton & Hove 3-1. 

Southgate, who won 7-5 at Preston in the last 16, return to the North West to take on Bowdon.  Bowdon also scored seven but enjoyed a far shorter trip to neighbouring Timperley and also kept a clean sheet 

Kookaburras target four Champions Trophies in a row but take a cautious line on injuries

The world number-one ranked men's hockey side Australia are hoping to rewrite the record books and become the first team to ever win the Champions Trophy four years in a row.

Coach Ric Charlesworth has, however, named a far-from-full-strength squad for hockeys' biggest annual world-level event which this year is in Auckland, New Zealand from December 3-11.

Great Britain 1 - Belgium 3 - Harry Martin opens his GB account

 

Old Loughtonian’s Harry Martin scored his first goal in Great Britain colours on the stroke of half time, but it was not enough as Belgium reversed the score-line from yesterday in the midday match in Antwerp.
