The Great Britain Hockey men’s squad has been announced for the forthcoming London Prepares VISA International Invitational Hockey Tournament which runs from the 2-6 May 2012.  Great Britain will face opponents Germany, India and Australia across four days of competition with the final taking place on Sunday 6 May at 18:30.

The result sets up the most tantalising of contests at 9 am SA time Wednesday when SA meet log-leaders Japan.

Sharland and Pontifex named New Zealand's best

The evening also acknowledged the unsung heroes of the sport presenting 20 recipients from throughout the country with bronze, silver or gold awards for the huge contribution they have made to the sport.

Oxford and Cambridge top GB medal table

April 30, 2012:To mark the start of Universities Week 2012  a new report launched today reveals the statistics behind Team GB’s medallists for the last twenty years. Analysis shows that Team GB Olympic medallists are twice as likely to have gone to university as the UK population as a whole. Sixty one per cent of medallists have been to university compared to 31 per cent of the population who have a degree.

The ugly, ill-tempered affair did not do justice to the most beautiful of spring days and sin-bin cards did little to cool tempers. Justin Reid-Ross took his tally to six in the tournament with a field goal and penalty corner, while field goals from Tim Drummond, Lloyd Norris-Jones, Lance Louw and Thornton McDade completed the SA scoring. Martin Seemann and Stepan Bernatek netted field goals for the Czechs. 

Australia arrive in London ahead of Olympic test event

Kookaburras coach Ric Charlesworth and a squad of 24 players have arrived in the UK ahead of the London VISA International Invitational Hockey Tournament on May 2-6.

The European tour is a chance for the world's number one team to see how they are tracking and how their competition is fairing in the lead up to the London Olympics.

South Africa thrash Brazil in Olympic qualifier

An on-song South Africa men’s hockey team beat Brazil 11-1 after leading 4-0 at half-time in their opening Olympic Qualifier Tournament match in Japan Thursday.

Attack-minded defender Justin Reid-Ross netted four times, twice with stunning penalty corners, a brace apiece went to striker Lloyd Norris-Jones and midfielder Tim Drummond, a penalty stroke by Andrew Cronje, and action goals from Jonty Robinson and Thornton McDade found just one reply from Brazil in Mattheus Borges’ soft penalty corner.

Great Britain will face opponents Korea, China and Argentina across four days of competition. With China and Korea both in GB's Olympic pool, coach Danny Kerry is wary of showing too much of his hand ahead of the Olympics. He has also named only one goalkeeper for the tournament on the blue turf of Riverside Stadium in Olympic Park.
