Australia lead way at Champions Trophy, England finish eighth

Pakistan finished third after beating India 3-2. Belgium retained their place for the 2014 Trophy with a 5-4 extra-time win over Germany.

England took the wooden spoon as New Zealand produced a golden goal through Nick Wilson to win 3-2.

MELBOURNE, December 2 - England shrugged off the disappointment of Saturday’s loss to India with a 4-1 victory over Olympic champions Germany at the Champions Trophy in Melbourne on Sunday. England Assistant Coach Bobby Crutchley described the outcome as “just desserts for sticking rigidly to a game plan.”

England took their chances and were never behind in the match which was littered with cards, including four greens, four yellows and a red card for Germany’s Niklas Grell.

MELBOURNE, August 27 - The match schedule for the men's hockey Champions Trophy to be played in Melbourne, Australia from December 1-9, 2012 has been anounced.


England have been drawn in pool A alongside Olympic champions Germany, New Zealand and India.

The number-one ranked Kookaburras had no answer to Germany's precision passing game and ability to beat the press with aerials and confidence on the ball.

There were also echoes of Beijing where Australia lost a 2-0 lead to Spain at the same stage of the tournament.

In London, Germany so dominated the final stages of the game there was even time for a comic ending with Moritz Furste dribbling near the corner flag with one hand while rallying the Riverbank Arena crowd the other.

LONDON, August 8 - The first classification match of London 2012 saw Natascha Keller sign off her Olympic career with a win as Germany defeated Korea, while Japan eased ahead of South Africa courtesy of a golden goal.

Classification 9/10 - Japan v South Africa

An extra-time golden goal from Ai Murukami handed Japan a 2-1 win over South Africa, and ensured they equalled their ninth-place finish at Beijing 2008.
