Australia lead way at Champions Trophy, England finish eighth

Pakistan finished third after beating India 3-2. Belgium retained their place for the 2014 Trophy with a 5-4 extra-time win over Germany.

England took the wooden spoon as New Zealand produced a golden goal through Nick Wilson to win 3-2.

LONDON September 17 - Here is our weekly update on how some of the Brits we know who are playing abroad are faring.

Former Beeston and England U21 striker Chris Seddon scored twice as his new club side Laren defeated Voordaan 6-1 in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Also in Holland England U21 star Shona McCallin scored for MOP in the Dutch top flight, but it wasn't enough as they lost 3-1 to champions Den Bosch. 

Beijing Olympian Charlotte Craddock scored twice for the University of North Carolina as they defeated local rivals Wake Forest 2-1 on Sunday. Craddock also scored in Friday's 3-2 win over Old Dominion, a game in which Teddington's Katie Ardrey chalked up an assist.

MELBOURNE, August 27 - The match schedule for the men's hockey Champions Trophy to be played in Melbourne, Australia from December 1-9, 2012 has been anounced.


England have been drawn in pool A alongside Olympic champions Germany, New Zealand and India.

An individual effort from the Uhlenhorst Mulheim midfielder two minutes before half-time set Germany on their way. Then a final deflection on a pass into the circle from Tobias Hauke restored the winning margin two minutes ahead of the final whistle.

Chances were even in a scoreless first half before Netherlands got the opening goal of the match in the 45th minute. Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel followed up an Eva de Goede penalty corner flick to slap the ball into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Captain Maartje Paumen made it 2-0 to Netherlands in the 54th minute with an unstoppable penalty corner flick, scoring a record 14th Olympic goal in her second consecutive Olympic final.

The Dutch, however, will go into the gold medal game against Germany with serious injury problems. Klass Vermulen has a broken collarbone from a collision with Glenn Kirkham  and will not be fit. Corner ace Mink van der Weerden was hit on the foot by a Matt Daly hit and will have a scan tomorrow.

The Dutch were always ahead in the game after taking the lead through a Rodrick Weutshof PC in the ninth minute. Weusthof added a second six minutes later, officially an open play goal but coming from a mis-executed corner.
