Quarter-final previews by Jon Williams

Group A - must be billed as the battle of the drag flickers in both matches.

In the all German clash it is Strawlowski against Zeller - both deadly from set pieces. Koln perhaps have a touch more experience but essentially nearly all of the German Olympic squad are on show.

AMSTERDAM, March 30 -Beeston eventually make it past East Grinstead with a silver goal in extra time. In the first half of the match no sides played some nice hockey: Besston taking a 1-0 lead but then a quick brace from Glenn Kirkham put the Sussex side into the lead.  East Grinstead were in the ascendancy but could not pull away.

Reading provide the big shock on day one of the Euro Hockey League KO16

by Jon Williams
What an amazing day of hockey all the games have entertained - but obviously the standout was Reading v Rotterdam. This game had everything you could wish for - sublime skills, great attacking play, brilliant defending and drama as well.

Stand out players were the talismanic Richard Mantell, with his trademark disguised pass, crunching tackles and levelling the scores with a coolly taken PC to force extra time.

Darren Cheeseman's penalty in the 1v1s was possibly the coolest most assured finish I have seen. Reading thoroughly deserved to go through.
