Double-header weekend in Investec women's hockey league

CANTERBURY, February 15 - With four of the top five teams in the Investec women’s premier division facing a double-header weekend, the race for a spot in the end of season play-offs is hotting up.

Two matches that were postponed before Christmas have been rescheduled for Sunday, in addition to the regular league programme on Saturday.

Leaders Canterbury face bottom of the table Slough on Saturday, and then take on second-placed Leicester on Sunday.

The East Midlands side will need to be on top form for the Canterbury clash, but also have a tough proposition against Bowdon Hightown 24 hours earlier.

LONDON, February 15 - A full-strength Surbiton side are preparing to take on Canterbury in the England men's hockey league on Sunday as the race for a place in the end of season play-offs continues to gather pace.

With most teams still in the hunt for a top four place in what looks set to be the closest finish to the Men’s Premier Division for several seasons, every match could prove crucial.

Surbiton manager James Lloyd said his team were relishing the prospect of each and every game from now to the end of the season: “There’s no such thing as an easy game now. Everybody is fighting for their lives to make it to the top four.

KETTERING, January 12 - There were thrilling finishes to both semi finals in the women’s Maxifuel Super Sixes championship, which ended with Reading and Sutton Coldfield fighting from behind to secure victories at a packed Arena Sport in Kettering on Saturday evening.

KETTERING, January 10 - The race for a place in the women’s Maxifuel Super Sixes Final reaches its climax this weekend as the action-packed semi finals take place at Arena Sports in Kettering on Saturday evening.

Reigning champions Leicester take on Reading in the first semi final at 6pm, in a repeat of last year’s final, while Sutton Coldfield and Bowdon Hightown do battle in the second semi final at 7.30pm.

BROMSGROVE, December 16 - Leicester powered through both of their Sunday fixtures to keep their 100 per cent start to the women’s Maxifuel Super Sixes Championship premier division campaign.

In their first game of the day they saw off Sutton Coldfield with a narrow 3-2 victory thanks to goals from Chloe Rogers, Katie Long and Nic White.

BURTON, December 16 - Simon Egerton and Harry Martin were in fine form as they made sure that Beeston kept their perfect start to the men’s Maxifuel Super Sixes Championship premier division on Sunday.

Bowdon were the first to face them today and it took hotshot Egerton just three minutes open the scoring. Two minutes later, Ben Arnold doubled the advantage and then Harry Martin hit four cracking goals to make it a 6-1 victory.

BURTON, December 16 - Beeston are the early leaders of the Maxifuel Super Sixes Championships men’s premier division after an exhilarating opening day which saw Ben Arnold score six goals at St George’s Park in Burton upon Trent. 

Arnold and Tim Davenport were in scorching form, powering to a hat-trick each in their opening game against Doncaster.

Doncaster weren’t lacking in firepower themselves though as Carl Smith matched their feat and Tim Shelley hit a brace.
