The journey home and an afterword about the EHL
I am now on the ferry waiting to be taken back to England.
What an amazing weekend! I would recommend you all take the time and go to Holland to watch either the EHL or the various internationals that take place there.
Firstly, it is only three and a half hours from Calais by car. The roads are flat and well sign posted. They are not that busy either.
Then to the actual hockey itself, you are guaranteed packed stands and a real party atmosphere.
There is Shell City for the kids: a whole turf with inflatables. A cross between a bouncy castle and hockey!
It is fully staffed and equipment is free to use. There is also a room with TVs and PS3 games, plus drawing and face painting. Again fully supervised.
Then to my favourite place the Village! A Kit Monkey's joy!
Every hockey manufacturer is there, promoting their sticks and textiles. Plus the range is vast - so much larger than in the UK.
It really has to be seen to be believed! Almost too much to choose from, so bring the Euros and credit cards with you!
Then the hockey itself is just a joy, so many friendly happy faces. Plus, everyone is so laid back you are continually bumping into the likes of Teun de Noijer and Naomi Van Ass! They are happy to chat and even have a cold Heineken with you if they are not on playing duties!
Overall so much fun and entertainment for the whole family.
Reading for example brought 150 supporters with them, so come on you hockey lovers! Save up what all that money from cancelling the extra package on Sky to get Eurosport channels and go and watch it live!
To coin a phrase from my childhood, why don't you switch off that TV and do something less boring instead!
I have to go now, as there is a busy time ahead of me with all the new season's textiles being prepared for the season. So much testing and sampling to do! Plus the new sticks....I can feel myself going bananas already!
