Semi finals

The morning began in true Dutch fashion with cheese and ham rolls! Then off to HGC hockey club. Guess what, sun shining through the windows this morning then as soon as the car engine started the heavens opened! Once again torrential rain all morning! In fact it even hailed during the Reading game. Semi Final 1 Reading v Campo Final score was 3-0 to Campo, who in the end deserved to win the game. They grewn in strength and confidence as the game progressed. In fact it was 0-0 after the first quarter. Then Campo scored in each of the remaining quarters. The goal to put them 2 up was a low drag to Brother's right, he got a stick to it but only deflected it into the net. Arguably slightly against the run of play with Reading having two goals disallowed. Andy Watts and Jonty Clarke were outstanding causing lots of pressure with their close skills. The Campo keeper was very good and brave saving down low at his feet! Still all keepers are a little mad aren't they? Reading pushed and pushed in the appalling rain but could not get any joy. It has to be said that as Reading pressed there was a little more space for Campo who started to knock the ball about sublimely building their attacks with confidence from the back, this was demonstrated by their third goal which was brilliant. Once again did the ball go through Brothers? It was a sweetly timed reverse stick strike. Campo were very impressive indeed! Match over - time to explore!! A smallish village and a whole turf for the 'Shell City' area for the kids. It does have to be said the Dutch really know how to host a hockey event, with lots of things to attract the families and keep the children happy whilst mum and dad watch hockey or enjoy a cold Heineken. Some nice new offerings from Princess were on show, some bags and great zipped hoodies! Also, bumped into a certain Teun de Noiijer who was delightful company. He is going to continue to play for Blomendaal and go to London 2012, then call it a day! What a great guy, totally down to earth and took the time to speak to one and all. Stalls from Adidas, but not unveiling their new collection yet.....AWWWW! Also Voodoo and McGregor clothing. Now semi final two: Oranje Zwart v HGC First quarter HGC have all the possession and Kranstauber scores form a powerful drag flick to the keepers right. Second quarter almost a repetition of the first with Rob Short scoring off a well worked PC move to make it 2-0 at half time. Oranje Zwart beat HGC twice in the league and finished 3rd overall, however, today they just can't get the ball to build any sort of possession. Then disaster strikes for Hammond at the start of the third quarter injuring a hamstring and missing the remainder of the game. Oranje Zwart are just missing the final pass, and are getting very frustrated. Tempers are starting to flare. Van Ass then wins a penalty when his shot was illegally stopped from going into the net. Kranstauber makes it 3-0 and HGC are in the finals. It will be interesting, I think Reading OZ will be a cracker and Campo will outclass HGC - have to wait and see!!! Well, now retail therapy: Dekker Sports in Den Haag and Special Sports Hockey World in Amstelveen have to be checked out. More sticks than you can imagine, a hitting area to test them out first and also the kit selection is simply mouthwatering!
