Last season's premiership finalists East Grinstead and Beeston both hit six in the opening weeekend of the men's England hockey league. The reigning champions opened their campaign with a trip to Loughborough where two PCs from Gareth Carr, a brace from Mark Pearn and one from Rick Gay saw the Sussex club home. Former Irish international Iain Lewers was a notable scorer for the students on his return from Dutch league hockey.
Beeston's goal-rush was led by two goals each from Martin Jones and David Aimes while Aussie Andrew Monte and former Brooklands MU player Aiden Khares also chipped in.
