England to play Australia at 9am on Thursday
MELBOURNE, December 4 - England’s men’s hockey team will face hosts Australia, the Olympic bronze medal holders, in the quarter finals of the Champions Trophy in Melbourne on Thursday morning.
The quarter final line-up was confirmed at the conclusion of the pool phase on Thursday morning. England’s 1-1 draw with New Zealand, coupled with Germany’s 3-2 win over Pool A winners India, meant England finished third in the pool and are drawn to play the Australians, who finished second in Pool B.
Australia won the Olympic bronze medal in London as they defeated Great Britain 3-1.
The ‘Ashes’ clash will be the fourth quarter final on Thursday, getting underway at 9:00am GMT (8:00pm local time).
The full quarter final line up is as follows:
01:30 GMT - 12:30 local time - Germany v Pakistan
04:00 GMT - 15:00 local time - Netherlands v New Zealand
06:30 GMT - 17:30 local time - India v Belgium
09:00 GMT - 20:00 local time - Australia v England
England’s match against Australia will be shown live online at www.fih.livesport.tv and at the time of writing is due to be shown live on British Eurosport 2.
