Tindall nets golden bronze medal goal for England; Germany win the title

England men equalled the women's performance, taking EuroHockey Nations Championship bronze with a 2-1 extra-time golden goal win over Belgium on Sunday.

Hosts Germany defeated Netherlands 4-2 in the final.

England took the lead in the seventh minute of the third-place game when Richard Mantell stepped up for his first penalty corner of the week and absolutely drilled one, right post, just above the backboards. After that, what started as an assured England performance gradually faded away, and Belgium gained more and more posession.

The equaliser came in the 44th minute when Alexandre de Paeuw chipped James Fair in the England goal. England appealed to the video umpire that a Belgian circle injection in the lead up to the goal was dangerous - but the goal stood.

With no further goals, the game went to extra time. In the fifth minute a determined James Tindall somehow scrambled the ball in from just in front of the keeper to win the bronze. The Belgians appealed rather speculatively that 'it wasn't a goal', but the decision stood.
