EUROHOCKEY NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE
England women and men will open their 2007 EuroHockey Nations Championships campaigns against Ireland and Belgium respectively. The joint tournament, which will take place at Belle Vue in Manchester - the legacy facility from the 2002 Commonwealth Games - will begin on 18th August 2007 with the top three teams winning direct qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
England men and women will play on alternate days, guaranteeing spectators an England game on every day. There is a double opportunity on Monday 20th August for fans to see England when the women will play Italy and the men will face the Czech Republic.
England (women) find themselves in the same pool as reigning European and World Champions the Netherlands with this showdown taking place on Tuesday 21 August, the last pool game for both sides. England (men) have avoided current European Kings Spain but will face Germany (men) who are current World Champions. They will provide formidable opposition for England in their last pool game on Wednesday 22 August.
The EuroHockey Nations Championships offers the top three teams in each competition a direct route to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, so battle will be fierce. The bronze medal match will effectively be another “final” with the winner claiming the final Olympic prize.
The top two in each pool will go through to the semi-finals and the bottom two in each pool will go into a “relegation” pool. The bottom two teams from this group will be relegated to the EuroHockey Nations Trophy competition in 2009.
